👉🏼This wine is a blend of 90% Tempranillo vines (over 60 years old)🍇 and 10% Graciano🍇. 👉🏼This 904 was barrel-aged in January 2014, bottled in 2017, and released in 2019.
📝The first aroma is a burst of pepper and rich, grassy notes, like someone breaking a bundle of lush green grass right in front of you – a classic characteristic of early, young Tempranillo. After swirling, aromas of blueberries and slightly cooler fruits gradually emerge. An hour later, aromas of leather, oak, and warm spices such as cinnamon, coffee, and nutmeg overpower the grassy notes, finally settling on ripe or pickled plums.
La Rioja Alta was founded in 1890, so their flagship wine, the 890, was named after this vintage. In 1904, several investors merged to form Ardanza winery, thus creating the 904.
Both 809 and 904 are Gran Reserva classifications. The 809 requires a 13-year aging period before release, while the 904 requires a 10-year aging period. During this long period, the winery diligently transfers the 809 and 904 to different barrels every six months to prevent acid volatiles or other factors that could affect the wine's quality from prolonged storage in the same barrels.
Please note that wines older than 10 years or priced above US$90.00 per bottle are non-refundable and non-exchangeable. We apologize for any inconvenience.
For customers who have already paid $$$, wines can be stored in our warehouse for a maximum of 30 days, after which a monthly storage fee of US$2.60 per bottle will be charged. We apologize for any inconvenience due to limited space.
